Fitter Than Ever: How Glenn Bradford Transformed His Life at False Bay Fitness

When Glenn Bradford first walked into False Bay Fitness, his health was spiralling.

What he found at False Bay Fitness was more than a workout - it was a way to completely transform his life.

When Glenn Bradford first joined False Bay Fitness, his health was in a dangerous place. "My lifestyle was affecting my health in a serious way," he says, "and I wanted to change that."

Taking that first step wasn’t easy. Glenn admits he was nervous “I was so unfit” - but with the support of his wife Nicola and the scalable nature of the workouts, he gave it a go. “The scaling options really helped me work within my capabilities,” he explains.

Before discovering False Bay Fitness, Glenn tried other forms of exercise. “I tried running, but couldn’t go far. I tried the treadmill at a regular gym, but the vibe wasn’t for me - it felt more like a fashion show.” What kept him coming back to False Bay Fitness was something different entirely. “The coaching, the movements, the community… nothing compares.”

He describes the atmosphere as vibrant, inclusive and deeply motivating. “There’s such a diverse mix of people - it creates a kaleidoscope of energy and calmness. Everyone is friendly and supportive. People actually take interest in each other's fitness journeys and that’s powerful.”

Glenn doesn’t single out one moment that’s defined his journey. “There’s something new every day. A coach cheering me on with a ‘Yes Glenn, well done!’, helpful advice or just one of those workouts where I surprise myself. There’s always something positive I walk away with.”

The results speak for themselves. “I’ve never been as fit as I am now, not even as a teenager,” he says. Glenn has run two Cape Town marathons, countless trail and road half marathons, and ticked off gymnastic movements like handstand walks, push-ups, muscle-ups and recently being able to string double unders together. He’s also competed in fitness competitions and grown immensely in Olympic lifting, thanks to the gym’s structured strength cycles.

Outside the gym, the changes have been just as transformative. “My lifestyle has done a complete 360” he says. “I’m more productive at work, and I can now do physical activities with my kids like swimming, skating, and riding bikes.”

My whole lifestyle I was living before basically did a complete 360.

For Glenn, training has become non-negotiable. “It’s my medicine. If I don’t take my medicine, I get sick. Simple as that.”

And the community? “It’s impacted me in ways I never expected. I’ve made friends, found new social circles, training partners and support beyond just fitness.”

Since joining, Glenn’s confidence has grown, along with a whole new outlook on life. “Fitness isn’t something I have to do anymore, it’s a goal-driven journey that’s added so much value and created unforgettable memories.”

He believes False Bay Fitness has added years to his life. “Honestly, I don’t think I’d be around to answer these questions if it wasn’t for this place.”

To anyone thinking about joining, Glenn says:
“Ask yourself: who are you doing this for? If the answer is you, then just start. That’s the most important thing, wanting to become a better version of yourself, not for anyone else but yourself.”

And something many people might not know about Glenn? He’s a volunteer Wildfire Firefighter - a calling he says was made possible because of the strength and fitness he’s gained at the gym.
