Charlotte’s Fitness Win: How One Class Turned Into So Much More

When people walk through the doors of False Bay Fitness for the first time, they are often unsure of what to expect. For Charlotte Werry, it began with a simple goal: prepare for Hyrox Cape Town 2024. But her decision to join wasn’t just about the race. It sparked a transformation that reached far beyond the finish line.

Charlotte was nervous at first. Like many people starting something new, she felt unsure about being the “new person” in a group. But those worries disappeared quickly.

“I was scared of being the ‘new person’, but everyone made me feel very welcome,” she says. “By now, I’ve made some very good friends too.”

Having tried other gyms before, Charlotte immediately noticed the difference in the quality and intensity of training at False Bay Fitness. “False Bay’s programs were more advanced than at my other gym,” she says. “And the atmosphere? It’s truly one in a million. I don’t think any other gym has the same vibes.”

It wasn’t just the training that hooked her, it was the people and the results. “The results I’m seeing, and the people, are what keep me coming back,” she explains. There isn’t one moment that stands out in her journey, but rather the steady sense of progress she feels at the end of each training cycle. “I love seeing how far I’ve come,” she says.

Since joining, Charlotte has seen major improvements in her strength, cardio fitness and technique. “One hundred percent!” she says with a smile. Taking part in the 7-Week Habits Challenge earlier in the year also helped her shift her mindset. “It made me more aware of a healthy lifestyle. I’m still trying to hold on to some of the things I started during the challenge.”

Especially with having a full-time job, gym is my moment of the day where I can just think of nothing and enjoy myself!
— Charlotte Werry

Of all her achievements, one stands out. “Doing my first competition - and winning it!”

Now, training is something she looks forward to every day. With a full-time job, it’s her time to switch off and do something for herself. “It’s a moment of the day I truly enjoy,” she says. “I can just think of nothing and enjoy myself.”

Joining False Bay Fitness has brought her unexpected benefits too. “I’ve made so many new friends,” she shares. “The events at the gym have been amazing. I’ve become more confident, something I never expected.”

Training regularly has helped Charlotte build more accountability into her life, both physically and mentally. “It helps me to hold myself accountable and not make excuses to skip training,” she says.

Her advice to anyone thinking about joining?

“Come and try! You won’t regret it.”

And if you’re nervous?

“The community is very welcoming and friendly. You will be welcomed with open arms.”

And something not everyone knows about Charlotte? “I used to be so scared of box jumps… and now they are one of my strengths.”

Charlotte’s story is a reminder that showing up is the first step and it might just change your life!
